I looked into filing an extension and decided against it. The 1040EZ was straightforward enough that I was willing to sacrifice whatever extra I might have earned by itemizing or researching tax credits in exchange for not stressing out about it. This is not an efficient or economical decision in terms of straight numbers (after all, I might have made several hundred bucks extra for a few hours’ research, or for a $20 fee at H&R Block), but in terms of precious free time not being wasted any more than necessary on telling the government to send me over a thousand bucks, I’m happy to get it over with quickly and cleanly.

Also, being busy can be expensive: Take the $40 fine I had to pay for over-due library books that I forgot about because I’ve been in hyper drive for three months; or the $20 parking ticket I got because I “had to” park illegally at the library because I had a meeting right before my class there and a rehearsal right after; or all the eating out because I don’t have time for grocery shopping, cooking, or meal packing.

Being disorganized is expensive.

Go to OLT.com pay 7.95 and your taxes are done. They cover all you need from standard ded. to itemization to cliaming things like the Hope or the Lifetime learning Education credit (gives more money back then claiming education expenses).

I understand what you have gone through for I have also been there. I will never forget those people who helped me when I needed the most. Financial irresponsibility indeed has its consequences, and we will never know its lesson unless we experience its indignities.

No, don’t get me wrong: I’m addicted to spicy food. I love the sensation. I just know better than to try to eat too much of it at once when it’s so very, very spicy.

Oddly, I’ve never had gefilte fish. I guess it’s not THAT odd, but my grandpa was raised Jewish, so I’ve had some minor exposure to the culture. (Maybe gefilte fish was the reason he became an atheist as an adult.)
